Infinity Ward is temporarily disabling attachment tuning inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2officially launched yesterday, October 28, and players across the world are delving into the game’s Multiplayer game modes. As is a tradition withCall of Dutygames at this point, there are strange unexpected technical issues with certain parts of the game. Infinity Ward has taken the extreme step of disabling the feature inModern Warfare 2due to it crashing some players' games.InModern Warfare 2, players will be able to tune their weapon attachments to fine-tune their stats to create a custom gameplay experience. Players do this by accessing the Gunsmith submenu in-game, though it only unlocks once players reach rank four. The reason for disabling theModern Warfare 2featureis that players were reporting their games crashing while using the feature. More specifically, tuning five attachments would lead to crashing issues. It’s unclear if players would crash in-game or exactly what caused the crash, but a fix is currently being worked on.
Players will also have to make sure that they’ve unequipped all tuned attachments in order to use their Loadouts, if they haven’t done so already. It’s unclear ifModern Warfare 2playerswill be prompted to do so or what will happen if they don’t unequip their tuned attachments. It’s probably best to just do it so no one has to worry about the potential consequences.
All in all, the removal ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s attachment tuning shouldn’t have a dramatic impact on gameplay. Players will still be able to use standardLoadouts, and very few will notice any gameplay differences. The alternative would be an increasing number ofModern Warfare 2players having issues with crashes, so Infinity Ward made the right decision.
The launch ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2has otherwise been quite smooth. There have been issues with crashes, particularly on PC, criticism of the game’s user interface, and other various issues, but Activision andInfinity Wardwill likely be pleased with the overall state of the game. Fans can expect updates on the attachment tuning fix as Infinity Ward works to address the problem.
