With asequel toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare2019 all-but-confirmed to be 2022’s game, as it makes sense given the reboot’s success, many are wondering what exactly Treyarch will be doing in 2023. Now, it seems like they have their answer, as Tom Henderson has clarified that the next game from the developer will be “semi-futuristic.” This should instantly get fans excited, especially with Henderson’s follow-up comment that the game is “boots on the ground.”
This description makesCall of Duty2023 sound exactly likethe fan favoriteCall of Duty: Black Ops 2. Released back in 2012, it was set in the near future of 2025 and featured an arsenal of unique weaponry and gadgets. However, it did not take things too far in the eyes of fans, as a traditional movement system was kept in place for the game. While the exosuits of other futuristicCall of Dutygames were seen as a bit much by a large chunk of the community,Black Ops 2did not use them, making it a more enjoyable version of the future for many players.
It will be interesting to see if 2023’s “semi-futuristic”Call of Dutygame will be set intheBlack Opsuniverse. Treyarch has been makingBlack Opsgames ever since 2010, however, so it is a safe bet that the game will be part of the same subseries. It will be interesting to see if the campaign takes place afterCall of Duty: Black Ops 2and follows David Mason, or if it takes place afterCall of Duty: Black Ops 4and looks at Alex Mason’s grandchildren. Likewise, fans will surely be hoping to see iconic weapons like the AN-94, Skorpion EVO, and the KSG returning.
With so manyCall of Duty: Black Ops 2map remakesinCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it will be interesting to see if the 2023 game brings moreBO2locations back. With the two games seemingly sharing a similar setting, this would make sense, though this leak should haveCall of Dutyfans excited either way.
