6Zetsu Betrays Madara
Madara Uchiha believed that peace could only be achieved with the help of Infinite Tsukuyomi. However, the Uchiha had no idea that he was being manipulated by Black Zetsu. The entity was the result of Kaguya’s will, and it manipulated Indra to attack his own brother. After Indra’s failure, Zetsu chose Madara as his next target.
Madara was reanimatedin the Fourth Great Ninja War, and he managed to become the Ten-Tails jinchuriki. Unfortunately, Madara didn’t get a chance to test out his power as Zetsu shoved its hand straight through his chest. Madara couldn’t even react, and all his hard work was undone for the revival of Kaguya Otsutsuki. This is arguably one of the biggest betrayals inNaruto.
5Itachi Kills The Uchiha
Itachi Uchiha is a characterwho is loved by the masses. He was a prodigy of the Uchiha Clan, and everyone knew that he was destined for greatness. Itachi grew up to become a member of the ANBU, and he had access to all the secrets of the Hidden Leaf. As an Uchiha, Itachi was also knowledgeable about things happening within the clan.
When the village elders found out about the coup d’etat, they wanted to put it to bed swiftly. Itachi had to make a choice: whether to slaughter his entire clan or side with his kinsmen to restore their pride. Itachi chose to turn a blind eye toward Hidden Leaf’s mistreatment of the Uchiha Clan, so he decided to massacre his clan, including his parents. It was a truly horrific decision, and it resulted in the Uchiha Clan going almost extinct.
4Sasuke Betrays Naruto
Sasuke is the deuteragonist ofNaruto. He is very different from Naruto Uzumaki in terms of personality and behavior. After Itachi inexplicably traumatized Sasukewith his genjutsu, thelatter grew up hating his older brother. Sasuke’s only aim was to destroy his brother and avenge his clan.
Following his victory over Itachi, Obito told the young Uchiha everything about the Uchiha massacre. This turned Sasuke against the Hidden Leaf, and he wanted to destroy the place. It required a reanimated Itachi and the four Hokage to put Sasuke back on the right track. He helped Naruto defeat Obito, Madara, and Kaguya, thus saving the world. However, Sasuke still betrayed Naruto’s trust, as he decided that killing his best friend was the only way forward.
3Obito Sides With Madara
As a kid, Obito was compassionate and caring, always trying to help other people. Sadly, his life turned upside down when he saw Rin being killed by Kakashi. Obito became enraged, and he agreed to carry out Madara’s plan. He attackedthe Hidden Leaf alongsidethe Nine-Tails, which resulted in the deaths of his teacher and many others.
Obito did not feel a single shred of remorse, and he continued to pull the strings from the shadows. When his identity was revealed during the Fourth Great Ninja War, everyone was surprised. Kakashi couldn’t believe that his best friend, whom he presumed dead, was responsible for so much destruction. Obito betrayed Kakashi’s trust for the sake of achieving an impossible dream.
2Orochimaru Kills The Kazekage
At one point, Orochimaru was considered to be the most talented ninja in the entire Hidden Leaf. He was Hiruzen’s favorite student, and the Third Hokage had high hopes for him. However, Orochimaru had other plans. He dabbed in immoral experiments, which caused the deaths of many individuals.
He was chased out of the Hidden Leaf, but he was never going to let the insult pass. Orochimaru formulated a plan with Rasa, the Third Kazekage of the Hidden Sand, to destroy Konohagakure. But he tricked Rasa and murdered him in cold blood to gain full control over his forces.
1Tsunade Spikes Jiraiya’s Drink
Tsunadebecame the Fifth Hokageof the Hidden Leaf after Jiraiya and Naruto personally sought her out. Before meeting Jiraiya, Tsunade had an encounter with Orochimaru. She wanted his help to revive Dan Kato and Nawaki. The deaths of the two changed Tsunade to the point where she couldn’t stand the sight of blood.
Tsunade wasn’t going to let Jiraiya cause any problems, so she spiked his drink. Jiraiya consumed the beverage, which rendered him incapable of molding chakra and performing ninjutsu normally. Luckily, Jiraiya was able to survive and return to the Hidden Leaf. Needless to say, things could have taken a very bad turn.
