Assassin’s Creed Miragetells the story of Basim’s rise throughthe Hidden Onesduring the Golden Age of Baghdad, as revealed during Ubisoft Forward, but the trailer has another character that demands the spotlight.
Players are introduced to Roshan, a former Persian slave, who finds herself as a mentor of the Hidden Ones. In the game, they are based in Alamut and this era is just before The Hidden Ones transition into the Assassins. Roshan demands attention duringtheAssassin’s Creed Miragetrailer, and she’ll have a big role to play in the game to boot. Game Rant spoke briefly withAC Miragecreative director Stephane Boudon about Roshan’s relationship with Basim.

Roshan is Basim’s Mentor
What’s clear from Roshan’s presence in the trailer is how stringent she is about the Hidden Ones and the Creed. Roshan likely has more dimensions to her character, but she comes as a very stringent person who doesn’t joke around much. While one could arguably see this inBasim comeAssassin’s Creed Valhallatoo, it doesn’t seem he was much like that in his youth. Players begin as a street thief, go on their journey as an Assassin, and climb the ranks to Master, but it seems that the two will not always see eye to eye.
Specifically, Boudon described their relationship as
Oh, it’s a classic mentor-student relationship. Roshan sees a lot of potential in Basim. Indeed, he is kind of a special character. And she will help him find the answer to his issues, his problems. Because, you know, Basim has this great potential, but he’s also torn with nightmares, with visions. He will seek answers inside the brotherhood and Roshan will help answer them. At some point, maybe Basim will cross a line, and we can see that there will be conflict between them.
Roshan is Played By Shohreh Aghdashloo
Roshan’s voice is easily recognizable, with actress Shoreh Aghdashloo speaking during Ubisoft Forward about how much she loves Roshan’s character. Those trying to place her voice may recognize her fromMass Effect 2andMass Effect 3’s Admiral Shala’Raan vas Tonbay or theDestinyfranchise’s Lakshmi-2. She’s most recognizable for her movie and TV roles though, as 1977’sThe Reportand 1977’sSooteh Delanskyrocketed her career. She has also played film or TV roles inThe Exorcism of Emily Rose(20005),X-Men: The Last Stand, The Expanse, andThe Punisher.
What’s clear from the focus and pedigree put into Roshan is that Basim may beAssassin’s Creed Mirage’s leading man, but Roshan may be its independent leading woman. The two will work closely, and it’ll be interesting to see how their mentor-student relationship develops over the course of the game, especially asBasim is haunted by Loki.
