BeforeAssassin’s Creedbegan pivoting toward RPG mechanics withOriginsin 2017,previous entries likeAssassin’s Creed SyndicateandUnitywere set in the dense cities of Industrial Revolution London and French Revolution Paris, respectively. WhileUnity’s launch suffered heavily due to technical bugs, it’s long since been patched up and is beloved today as one of the more unique titles in the franchise.

SinceAssassin’s Creed Miragebegan its development as DLC forValhalla, many of Eivor’s animations have carried over to the way Basim moves while running and jumping across rooftops. However, nobody expected Basim to pull out a move from the nearly decade-oldAssassin’s Cred Unity. On Reddit, JealousAd8831 posted a short GIF of Basim inAssassin’s CreedMiragepulling off the same diving parkour move introduced byUnity’s protagonist Arno Dorian back in 2014.In the clip, Basim is shown diving off the corner of a rooftop with his arms and legs back, almost in a belly flop position, before grabbing onto a horizontal wooden post and swinging up to grab another ledge.
It would be interesting to know if these animations accumulate from title to title over time, or if in this case Arno’s dive animation was added intoMirageas a deliberate nod to Arno andAssassin’s Creed Unity. Some commenters under the post claim that the specific parkour move has existed in everyAssassin’s Creedgame sinceUnity, even the RPG-focused entries where parkour is less frequent. Another commenter added that the animation is best suited for environments dense with ledges and bars to jump across. SinceMiragefeatures the first substantial city environment in the series sinceSyndicate, the move is more likely to trigger as players spend much more timeparkouring inMirage’s Baghdadthan in any of the larger open world RPG entries likeOriginsorOdyssey.
With several big codenamedAssassin’s Creedprojects underway at Ubisoft likeRedandHexe, it’ll be interesting to see if the new Assassins will feature their own unique running and parkour animations, or if elements of Eivor and Basim’s movement will persist for the foreseeable future. Perhaps Arno’s diving animation will live on in future installments as well. AsMiragehas just released, fans will likely have to wait a bit longer to learn more about Ubisoft’s many enticingAssassin’s Creedprojects in the works.
Assassin’s Creed Mirageis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
