WhileEnlistedshares features with common FPS games likeCall of DutyandBattlefield, it adds a depth of progression unseen in those titles, in addition to a unique squadron mode that allows players to control a group of soldiers rather than just one. Whether players are familiar with such FPS titles or not, there are a number of mistakes most people make when getting to grips with playing Enlisted.

10Expecting To Have To Spend Real Money In Order To Have An Impact On The Battlefield

War Thunderoffers a bounty ofgreat skins and such to buy in its store.Enlisted, similarly, is not even a little shy about the fact that dropping cash will speed up the grind and net all sorts of fun things to play with. However, in another parallel to the aforementioned title, the player is a very real threat on the battleground with even the most basic weapons and squads.

Players may find themselves tempted to drop some cash on the game if they enjoy it that much. They may decide that having all that painstakingly detailed themed gear is worthwhile. Crucially, though, they don’t need to. This game is a blast, and combatants are more than competitive without spending money.

9Jumping Right Into Vehicle Combat Before Learning The Maps

InWar Thunder, tanks are a formidable threat. In this game, too, vehicles can be major tide turners when operated effectively. The problem is that, more often than not, the vehicles are more of a big distraction than an effective battlefield asset.

The Invasion of Normandy map, which is a fan favorite and one ofthe best FPS maps in recent memory,is a disaster for tanks unless the player knows exactly where to drive. It’ll take some time to unlock tankers and pilots (microtransactions notwithstanding), but even so, it’s always best to learn where and how vehicles are best used before jumping in.

8Forgetting To Mark Enemies

A very common complaint among players is that allies don’t not mark their foes enough. It’s hard to see opponents inEnlisted,as camouflage is just so effective. Unless graphics are turned all the way down, picking out a trooper in a clump of bushes is very difficult.

Marking an enemy is easy (“V” on PC). It adds a visual indicator both in the first person view and on the map, which helps team members avoid being ambushed. Marking enemies can win battles, just as playing selfishly and not doing so can easily lose battles.

7Chasing Kills Above All Else

There is a storied tradition of ignoring objectives in competitive multiplayer games, in favor of attempts to pad a kill/death ratio. ManyEnlistedplayers, naturally, want to do this too. It’s just so darn fun to rack up 100+ kills in one round.

A massive kill count certainly doesn’t guarantee a victory, though. It’s much more efficient to gain experience by winning than it is to take down numerous enemies but lose the round, so players should always be sure to keep track of their objectives.

One of the most unique aspects ofEnlistedis the squadron based warfare. This is something thattheBattlefieldandCall of Dutyrivalryisn’t really engaging with, so it should remain a unique feature.  All those allies can really be helpful when it comes to healing, too. If a player is hit with enough damage, they’ll enter a downed state where they can only really heal themselves using a medkit. Manually healing takes time and makes the trooper vulnerable.

One of the handiest parts about squadron-based warfare is that, when switching to another member of the squadron, the AI will take over and perform the healing automatically. While this squad member does so, the player can control an active soldier and protect their friends.

5Feeling The Need To Constantly Be On The Offensive

Some players really struggle with staying put, but hunkering down and defending an objective is frequently exactly what needs to happen. This mistake is made most frequently in the Domination game mode, where players need to capture and hold strategic locations on a map.

Many players feel compelled to immediately run towards the enemy, or to the next capture point as soon as the one they’re at is captured. When many players on a team do this, it is an almost guaranteed loss, regardless of how many enemy players they defeat. Strive to be the team member that stays behind and defends objectives: there will always be others rushing off to capture the next one.

4Thinking That Bushes Make For Effective Cover

The environments in the game look great with the graphics settings bumped up. Detailed foliage and other interesting things on the battleground look like good places to hide. However, there are two main reasons why bushes are not a great place to take cover. First, when a player shoots their gun, there is almost always a “tracer” effect that will give away their location to anyone that is paying attention. If they fire again while an enemy is looking, that opponent will surely know just where their sneaky foe is hiding.

As bushes don’t stop bullets, some well-placed shots will quickly take care of of a trooper lurking in them. Secondly, when players have their graphical settings turned down, it is much easier to see other players (because lighting and foliage effects/details are far less dramatic). Bushes are great to dive into to hide if nothing else is nearby, but fans should always find real cover when possible.

3Always Reloading After Only Firing A Shot Or Two

Early on, when bolt-action firearms are common, reloading takes a long time and leaves the player vulnerable. The other thing to note is that sometimes it is much faster to reload after completely emptying a clip, which causes the action to refill the entire clip rather than loading bullets individually.

With this in mind, the reload-after-every-few-shots muscle memory that many FPS players have built up over the years will often end badly inEnlisted. Fans should wait until cover is available and there is a low probability of getting rushed before starting to reload. If ammo management is a problem, it’s possible to upgrade a squadron so they are able to carry more bullets at once.

2Forgetting To Pick Up Guns

Experienced Call of Duty: Warzone playerswill be familiar with the concept of handy buffs, but there are noModern Warfare-esque drops inEnlistedoffering boosts to firepower.  It’s also not immediately obvious thatEnlistedtroopers drop their weapons when they die and that they can be picked up.

It can take a great deal of time to unlock and buy new weapons, so finding them on the battlefield is a great way to temporarily boost damage output. These pickups will be lost upon death, but if there are still living members of the squad, it is also possible to pick up the weapons that they drop. For players that love sniping, this is especially helpful early in the game, when there is only one sniper rifle available.

1Forgetting About The Crucial Double Tap

Enlisted boasts some of the most forgiving healing mechanics in the genre. As long as damage doesn’t instantly kill the player, they can use a medkit to return to full life. In short, if gamers don’t see a direct confirmation that they scored a kill, that enemy is not dead.

The indicator to confirm this is most noticeable as a skull appearing where the enemy was (especially if troopers are far enough away that they couldn’t actually see that stricken enemy directly). It’s always better to fire a few more rounds until this symbol pops up, to ensure the enemy is out of commission and doesn’t come back for revenge.
